We hold our students to high academic and language proficiency standards as they develop virtues and values essential to global citizenship. Our academic, moral education, arts, and sports programs complement one another. We encourage you to explore all our programs, School Profile, and website.
In choosing a school for your child, it is important to ask yourself what you most value. There is no best school, only the best school for your child. Among our distinguishing qualities, we offer:

Three
Diplomas
At School of the Nations, students may earn up to three diplomas—the Brazilian Diploma, the American High School Diploma, and the AP Capstone Diploma. Our educational programs are accredited nationally by the Secretary of Education of the Federal District and internationally, by the U.S. accrediting agency, New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
Our Advanced Placement Capstone diploma program, created by The College Board®, allows students to develop research, collaboration, and communication skills for their future college success.
Dual
Language
Moral
Education
School of the Nations’ Moral Education curriculum begins in Early Childhood and extends through High School. Each Program is age-appropriate and focuses on capacity building involving peaceful coexistence and social intervention for a better world. In Nursery through Grade 1, our moral education program is known as Habits of the Heart. In Grades 2 to 5, the program is Virtues for Life. In Grades 6 through 8, we have our Junior Youth Program, and in Grades 9 to 12, Nations In Action. All Moral Education programs focus on developing moral qualities and values, and service toward others.
We offer a Dual Language Program from Nursery through High School. It aims to develop students’ native fluency, literacy skills, and high-level academic proficiency in both English and Portuguese. Our students not only study English and Portuguese in Language Arts classes, but also ‘learn to learn’ in both languages. Students acquire native fluency in speaking and writing, study grade-level academic content, and become literate consumers and producers of knowledge in both languages. Over time, students achieve results in both languages with equal or higher proficiency compared to native speakers.
From Grade 9 onward, students may opt to enroll in either the Bilingual High School Program, in which the language of instruction (Portuguese or English) depends on the subject, or in the International High School Program — a US High School program in which the language of instruction English, except for Portuguese and Portuguese-as-a-Second or -Additional Language classes.
Holistic
Learning
We nurture a transformational learning culture that supports our students in becoming conscious, compassionate, and capable world citizens. In keeping with this broad goal, our school fosters four dimensions of human development.
The four dimensions of Holistic Learning at School of the Nations are:
• Scholarship
• Transformative Moral Action
• Integral Well-Being
• Global Citizenship
International
Testing
Beginning in Grade 1, all students take internationally recognized standardized tests.
• Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) measures Language, Reading, and Math proficiency of students in Grades 2 through 9.
• Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is used by most universities in North America for university acceptance. The SAT is optional for students in Grades 11 and 12.
• Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) helps students in Grades 10 and 11 prepare for the SAT. The PSAT is mandatory for all students in these Grades.
• Advanced Placement Courses are college-level classes offered to students in Grades 9 to 12. Most U.S. universities accept as college credit Advanced Placement Exam scores of 3 or higher.
