Recognized by AMISA, the initiative impacted students from educationally vulnerable communities through academic mentorship.

We are proud to announce that two of our High School students, Maria Clara Brum and Luka Braga, have been selected as recipients of the AMISA Global Citizenship Grant and Recognition Award for their outstanding community service project, Preparing Youth for University Entrance Exams. In honor of their initiative, they were awarded a US$1,000 grant to support and recognize their service and civic learning efforts.
Recognizing Student-Led Change
The AMISA Global Citizenship Grant and Recognition Program, sponsored by TieCare, honors students from AMISA member schools who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to Global Citizenship. The program celebrates initiatives that deepen understanding of social issues, both local and global, through civic engagement and meaningful action within their communities.
The Service Project
In August 2024, the School of the Nations responded to a pressing need identified by educators and community leaders in São Sebastião, a region in the Federal District. Many local students preparing for university lacked academic support, particularly in Writing and Applied Math.
In response, the school mobilized the head of our Portuguese Department and Portuguese Teacher, Mr. Eli Guimarães, and three High School students to provide weekly academic mentoring at Escola Classe Vila do Boa. While Mr. Eli focused on Portuguese and writing instruction, our students offered support in Applied Math. Together, they created a consistent, supportive environment where students could build skills and gain the confidence needed for the entrance exams.
By January 2025, several students in the program achieved remarkable scores in their writing exams. Combined with ongoing support from local leaders throughout the week, this effort helped some participants earn full university scholarships, an achievement that reflects the power of collaboration between schools and community-based initiatives.
Education as a Collective Endeavor
At the School of the Nations, education extends beyond the classroom. This project reaffirmed our commitment to leveraging our academic resources in service of a more just and inclusive society. It also encouraged our continued reflection on how to sustain impactful partnerships that expand educational access and equity.
