Three-Time Champions: our Under-18 boys' soccer team earned the first-place trophy for the third consecutive year in the tournament
From December 6 to 8, the Nations Cougars Under-18 Boys' Soccer Team showcased their skill and determination at the AASB Final Four Championship, hosted by the American School of São Paulo (Graded). Emerging victorious after two fiercely contested matches, the Cougars claimed the championship title for the third consecutive year, solidifying their dominance as the only team to win the tournament since its inception in the soccer season.
The AASB Final Four is a premier tournament organized by the American Association of Schools in Brazil. It brings together the best two teams from the International Schools Sports League (ISSL) and the Big 8 Championship—the country’s leading school leagues—to compete for the ultimate title. Each season highlights different sports, and for the first semester of the 2024-25 school year, soccer was the sport defined.
The Path to Victory
On Saturday, December 7, the Cougars faced the Chapel Trojans, a formidable team from São Paulo. Despite conceding an early goal, the Cougars rallied in the second half. Striker Arron Ferraz and midfielder Felipe Suplicy each found the back of the net, securing a 2-1 comeback victory and a place in the championship match.
The finals on Sunday saw the Cougars take on the Graded Eagles, the host team. After a tense match that ended in a 0-0 draw, the game was decided by penalties. In a display of composure under pressure, the Cougars triumphed in the shootout, clinching their third consecutive title and further cementing their legacy in the AASB Final Four.
A Legacy of Excellence
Felipe Carvalho, the team’s coach, described the victory as a testament to the team’s perseverance over three seasons of challenges.
"Beyond these words, the continuous effort and the athletes' presence at training sessions are fundamental to all these achievements. It is during practice that we build teamwork and unity, especially since every year there are many changes in the roster due to graduations, which inevitably impact our tactical and technical planning."
"I am immensely proud of all the athletes who have been part of this journey. I often say that my role throughout all these years is to help shape outstanding citizens for the world and to see them happy with the choices they make for their future."
With this latest triumph, our Cougars have set a high bar for future teams, not only in their performance but also in their commitment to teamwork and resilience. The championship trophy is a symbol of their hard work and a reminder of the lasting impact of dedication and unity.
