On September 15, School of the Nations welcomed an array of eager students in Grades 11 and 12 and their parents for the KIC UnivAssist College Fair, an event that marked the beginning of a journey toward higher education and brighter futures.
In collaboration with the company KIC UnivAssist: Advancing Global Engagement, School of the Nations opened its doors to an event that transcends geographical boundaries and embraces the universal dream of higher education. KIC UnivAssist is a renowned company dedicated to supporting higher education institutions and high school counselors globally, aiming to cultivate international engagement. Their unique programs facilitate finding the perfect-fit higher education institution for students worldwide.
Sixteen prestigious university representatives graced our campus for the event, each bringing a wealth of knowledge and opportunities. The institutions that attended were—Columbia College Chicago; Full Sail University; Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis; Kent State University; Michigan State University; Ohio University; Savannah College of Art and Design; University of California, San Diego; University of Cincinnati; University of Missouri; University of Oklahoma; University of Pittsburgh; University of San Diego; University of Massachusetts Amherst; Concordia University; and the University of Rhode Island.
The college fair provided students a unique platform to explore these institutions, gather insights into the admissions process, and receive broad but valuable career guidance. It was an invaluable opportunity to take the first step toward shaping their futures.
Michelle Ray, our esteemed College Counselor, delivered an inspiring address at the event. She highlighted the importance of hosting college fairs within our school and how important it is for families to take part in such events. Her insights underscored how these gatherings act as bridges between students’ aspirations and the doors that higher education can open.
"It’s important for students to have face-to-face communication with university representatives. At the college fair, we can offer this physical interaction where they can learn more and realize what they need to do to apply. It also creates more excitement, bringing their expectations to life.
I would love to see more parents attend. During the college fair, they can learn about the application process and other information with their children instead of relying solely on emails and digital information about the colleges. They can inquire about careers as well. It’s important for parents because we must understand that everything has changed since they went to college. So, it’s an excellent opportunity for them to learn about different career choices."
One of our students, Lucca Castrese, a senior in the class of 2024 with dreams of studying abroad and pursuing a career in computer science, shared his experience at the College Fair. He emphasized the immeasurable value of taking part in such events and how they can provide clarity and direction to students embarking on their higher education journeys.
"I believe having several college fairs here at school is important because each university can be a perfect fit for different people in the school. It’s great to be introduced to the universities that come here because they are of high academic quality. I plan to study abroad, and I’m currently applying to a college in Nebraska in the United States to start my career in computer science. The school’s college guidance is very good in this regard. Michelle always strives to find the perfect college for you, considering both the academic level and the details of the city where the university is located. It’s very helpful!"
