The girls’ Futsal Team is now three-time champions while our boys’ futsal team secured the silver medal

From April 3 to 7, the NR Camp in São Paulo set the stage for the International Schools Sports League Season II (ISSL). School of the Nations stood out with four competitive teams in both futsal and volleyball, for both girls and boys, all in the under-18 category. In this challenge, our athletes faced renowned international and American institutions in Brazil, including Our Lady of Mercy School, Pan American School of Porto Alegre, Pan American School of Bahia, American School of Belo Horizonte, British School, St. Paul's School, and American School of Recife. Our volleyball teams competed with remarkable grit, securing fourth and sixth places in the competition.

Golden Glory: Nations’ Girls’ Futsal Team Wins the Championship

In a vibrant display of skill and determination, the Nations’ girls’ futsal team won the gold medal at the ISSL. Under the guidance of Coach Kaio Lamounier, the athletes overcame formidable opponents, including a crucial 2-0 victory over the American School of Recife in the semifinals, and an exhilarating 2-1 win against the athletes from the British School in the finals. This victory marks the team’s third first-place trophy, crowning them as three-time champions of the tournament.

Another Podium: Nations’ Boys’ Futsal Team Secures Silver

The boys' futsal team continued their remarkable streak of success, securing a podium spot for the fourth consecutive season. The journey to the final was marked by a tense semi-final against the Pan American School of Porto Alegre, which ended in a 2-2 draw in regular time and was decided by penalties, with a 7-6 victory, highlighting a crucial save by captain and goalkeeper Pedro Bernardes. In the final, facing the British School, the match also went to penalties, where our team secured second place in the tournament. Most Valuable Players

This season, the title of Most Valuable Player was awarded to standout athletes in each category, recognizing their significant contributions to their teams. In boys' volleyball, the honor was awarded to Arthur Peter, while Manuella Skaf received the recognition in girls' volleyball. For futsal, Beatriz Galvão was named MVP for the girls' team, and Pedro Bernardes for the boys' team. Their hard work and dedication were instrumental in their teams' successes throughout the season.

Path to the Final Four

Both futsal teams not only excelled at the ISSL but also qualified for the prestigious AASB Final Four championship, to be held later this academic year at the American School of Belo Horizonte. In preparation, our athletes will participate in intensive training and local competitions, aiming to achieve peak performance on this national stage among Brazil’s finest international and American schools.

Congratulations to all the student-athletes, coaches, staff, and the entire Nations community, whose support and cheering were crucial in encouraging our Cougars to victories.
