Seventh grader João Vitor Hasebe wins the first-place medal in the national Rokaz Block

Seventh grader João Vitor Hasebe wins the first-place medal in the national Rokaz Block Climbing Championship. The event took place last Saturday, April 29, in Belo Horizonte.

The Rokaz Climbing Academy organized the event focusing on ‘bouldering’ techniques. Bouldering is a form of climbing practiced on small rock formations or artificial walls. The sport requires an elevated level of strength, technique, and mental focus.

João Vitor competed in the ‘amateur’ category with athletes from all regions of Brazil. After achieving exceptional scores in the four bouldering disciplines he participated in, he ranked thirteenth overall in the Rokaz Block and the Campeonato Mineiro de Escalada.

João Vitor has been an athlete in rock climbing for seven years. He is also a member of our Nations volleyball team. He began training to compete in different climbing modalities about two years ago.

“Winning first place was awesome! It’s uncommon to practice climbing at my age, so I was surprised with my placement. But at the same time, I knew I was prepared to compete and perform at a high level compared to athletes in my age group.”
