A Week of Acts of Kindness: How Our Youngest Learners Are Making a Difference Beyond the Classroom
This past week, the youngest members of the School of the Nations community, from Pre-K to Grade 1, extended their participation in the annual Service Day through a series of meaningful activities. Led by the Moral Education Department, the students teamed up with local daycares to celebrate Children's Day in October by delivering school supplies, toys, and other essential items, reflecting their ongoing journey toward becoming compassionate global citizens.
Our Pre-K students took part in a visit to Instituto São Judas, located in Lago Sul. This visit followed a successful drive during the last Service Day, in which Pre-K families helped collect 292 food items for donation. During their time at the daycare, the children played with the local students, learned about their daily lives, and explored ways they could continue to offer support. The interaction served as a learning experience that connected them with peers from different backgrounds.
Kindergarten students also played a vital role by visiting São Francisco Daycare, in Estrutural, where they personally delivered 33 school supply kits. These essential materials will benefit students attending the daycare’s tutoring center. During the visit, the children met with the youngest members of the daycare, gaining insight into their needs and contributing to a positive and supportive learning environment.
For Grade 1, the focus was on collecting clothing and toys for Creche São Francisco. From the generous donations received, 19 high-quality toys were selected to be given directly to children from the daycare, with the remaining toys designated for shared playtime. The goal is to gather 38 toys in total, ensuring each child, ages 3 to 5, can take home a gift. This ongoing initiative continues to inspire participation, with a focus on fostering kindness and generosity among the students.
Though Nursery 2 and 3 students did not participate in an off-campus visit, their contribution was no less impactful. On Service Day, they collected 14 packages of diapers and 44 packs of baby wipes, also for Creche São Francisco, marking a significant effort to support the youngest members of the community.
The work of the Moral Education Department exemplifies the belief that education goes beyond the transmission of knowledge and skills. At the School of the Nations, we are committed to helping our students develop not only academically, but also ethically and spiritually, guiding them to understand their vital role in building a better world.
This week’s acts of service are a testament to that mission, as our Early Childhood students take their first steps toward a lifelong journey of serving humanity.
