Athletics and Sports

From Nursery through Grade 5, the curriculum is designed and taught to make physical education fun. Later, we focus on developing students’ specific motor skills required for various sports. In Middle School, our main goal is to give students the opportunity to explore various team and individual sports. Using modern Physical Education criteria, we teach through games and strive to create a safe, comfortable environment in which all students feel at ease taking part. This enables students to learn through problem solving and encourages them to develop greater autonomy.

School of the Nations has pioneered the concept of Cooperative Games in Brazil. This approach to sports highlights allowing participants to learn to play withrather than against one another. From a pedagogical viewpoint, students should be encouraged to participate in a manner that stresses cooperation first and foremost.

What makes our physical education program different?

  • The wide variety of sports and activities offered;

  • The focus on pleasure and quality of life rather than on competition alone;

  • Cooperative games in which students have the opportunity to experience and practice essential values and skills that make for a better life.

Early Childhood

Activities are based on pillars of laterality, balance, and coordination and help create an environment of social and physical well-being. We consider and respect the physical needs and limitations of each age group.

Elementary

We follow Referencial Curricular Nacional (RCN) guidelines. We strive to develop our students’ motor skills, coordination, and teamwork necessary to play sports well.

Middle School

We teach the importance of exercise and sports and the relation between them and a healthy life and developing physical strength and personal growth through Cooperative Games.

High School

We encourage students to participate on teams and to practice sports in general because physical exercise is essential to a healthy life and developing physical strength.

School Teams

School Teams help prepare 9th through 12th grade students to represent School of the Nations in friendly matches and games, tournaments and sports championships.

Being part of a sports team contributes significantly to students’ personal and social growth. Besides practicing physical skills, taking part in School Teams is a good opportunity for students to develop the spirit of sports, teamwork, cooperation, discipline, overcoming challenges and respecting differences.

Our teams are:

- Boys and Girls Basketball

- Boys and Girls Soccer

- Boys and Girls Futsal

- Boys and Girls volleyball

Training for School Teams takes place every day and begins at 4:30 p.m.
