Admissions Process Step-by-Step

  • The Admissions Form is the first formal document required for the application. It confirms your interest in enrolling your child at School of the Nations.
     

    To complete the form, you will need to upload the following items:
     

    1. A copy of your child’s birth certificate

    2. A recent 3x4cm photo of your child

    3. Your child’s most recent report card (for students in Grades 2 to 11)
       

    The application will not be considered complete until the above documents are received.

  • Before scheduling assessments, the following documents must be submitted:
     

    1. Copies of the student’s report cards from the past two years

    2. Copies of the most recent internationally recognized tests (e.g., MAP) or samples of exams in Math, English, or Science

    3. Letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors, or coordinators

    4. Students diagnosed with special educational needs must provide the most recent psycho-educational reports and Individual Learning Plans.

  • Early Childhood Education – Nursery to Grade 1:
     

    Parents applying for Early Childhood Education will be interviewed with their child by the coordinator or counselor.
    Interviews are conducted individually to assess the child's academic potential, social skills, and language proficiency.

    Families are required to complete and submit a health and development form.
     

    Elementary School – Grades 2 to 5:
     

    Admission exams or interviews for students applying to Grades 2 to 5 assess the child’s academic potential, social skills, and language proficiency. All students will take:

    • A reading and writing exam in Portuguese (not required for foreign students)

    • A Mathematics exam

    • A reading and writing exam in Portuguese (mandatory for all students in Grades 4 and 5)

    If necessary, the student may need to take additional exams or provide further documentation as outlined below:

    • Additional MAP tests

    • Additional report cards from previous schools

    • Evidence of good behavior and positive attitudes

    • Professional documentation of special educational needs
       

    Middle School and High School – Grades 6 to 12:
     

    Admission exams for Grades 6 to 12 include:

    • MAP exams in English and Mathematics

    • A Portuguese exam (not required for foreign students)

    • An essay in English

    • An interview to assess academic potential, social skills, and English proficiency

    If necessary, the student may be required to take additional exams or provide further documentation as outlined below:

    • Evidence of good behavior and positive attitudes

    • Professional documentation of special educational needs

    All Students:

    All candidates are interviewed by the segment coordinator or counselor. This interview is conducted in person unless the student resides outside Brasília. Parents may be invited to participate in the interview.

  • After receiving the admission approval notification, the final steps are:

    • Submit additional documentation, if requested
    • Complete internal forms
    • Read and sign the educational services contract
    • Pay the first tuition installment

Up to Three Diplomas

Students may earn up to three diplomas: the Brazilian High School Diploma, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, and the internationally recognized High School Diploma accredited by NEASC.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

School of the Nations is an authorized IB World School for the Diploma Programme (DP) and the Primary Years Programme (PYP).

Diverse Learning Experiences

At School of the Nations, we believe that education goes beyond the classroom. We offer a variety of learning experiences that enrich the holistic development of our students.

Nations receives its Primary Years Programme (PYP) Authorization

  • We offer a program from Early Childhood Education through High School. The child must be at least two years of age by August 1 to enroll.

    • Early Childhood Education (Nursery to Grade 1): 8:10 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. 

    • Elementary School (Grades 2 to 5): 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

    • Middle and High School (Grades 6-12): 7:45 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. 

    School of the Nations offers an After School Program. Aiming to enrich the regular curriculum, our After School program offers students the opportunity to explore skills i areas of interest to them. Find out more about our After School Program here.

  • We follow the international school calendar. The school year begins at the end of July or in the beginning of August, and ends around June.

  • School of the Nations holds both national and international accreditations:

    • In Brazil, the School is Accredited by the Ministry of Education of the Federal District and meets all Brazilian legal requirements.

    • School of the Nations is internationally accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

  • School of the Nations is an authorized IB World School for the Diploma Programme (DP) and is an official Candidate School* for the Primary Years Programme (PYP). These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education that the School of the Nations believes is important for our students. In October 2024, we will undertake a crucial phase in our pursuit of full authorization for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) as we prepare for the PYP Verification Visit.

    *Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP).  Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
